Dutton Ranch farms more than 80 separate vineyards in the Russian River Valley. The Thomas Road vineyard is located in the Northeast of the Green Valley sub-AVA and represents a true "wine of place". This is a single clone vineyard with two trellising systems, which results in different fruit set and yields. It is a certified Sonoma County Sustainably-Farmed and Fish Friendly vineyard.

The 2018 vintage allowed our Pinots an even, longer ripening season with an above-average crop. The Thomas Road fruit was hand-harvested in mid-September and cold-soaked for 5 days for maximum color and light tannin extraction. The fruit was punched down once daily during the cold soak period and up to three times daily during primary fermentation. After undergoing full malolactic fermentation, the wine was racked to barrel for aging in 50% new French oak.

Thomas Road is a deep ruby-colored wine that is known to be the "Big Brother" of our Pinot Noir portfolio. Often reminiscent of Willamette Valley Pinot Noir, the Thomas Road opens with aromas of tobacco, fall leaves, and a faint whiff of cranberry. A light, lean, and acid-driven wine, Thomas Road needs a moment to open in order to display its full potential. Flavors of Herbs de Provence and mushroom mingle with dried red fruit and a dusting of tannins on the finish. Food pairing opportunities abound, ranging from Korean short ribs to sausage pizza.
