2021 Manzana Vineyard Pinot Noir

VINEYARD

Dutton Ranch proudly cultivates over 80 unique vineyards in the Russian River Valley. Among these is the esteemed Manzana Vineyard, primarily home to Dijon and a touch of Pommard clones. For this wine, only the exceptional 115 and 828 clones are used. Spanning about 20 picturesque acres, the Manzana Vineyard graces the landscape with gentle easternfacing slopes. Interestingly, the land was originally owned by Manzana Products, who subsequently passed the torch to Dutton Ranch. In a nod to the area's apple history, the vineyard aptly carries the name Manzana.

WINEMAKING

Manzana Vineyard Pinot Noir is an exceptional blend of Dijon 115 and 828 clones, capturing the finest qualities of cool-climate Pinot Noir. The remarkable 2021 vintage marked the first year when both clones ripened together. In the early morning, the vineyard was carefully handpicked with each clone separated. Through meticulous processing, fermentation, and aging, each clone's unique character was preserved before blending in the spring. Gentle three-day cold soak during maceration enhanced flavor extraction while daily punch downs added to the complexity. The free-run juice of each clone was aged in new and once-used French oak barrels, undergoing full malolactic fermentation. After 11 months in 50% new French oak barrels, this extraordinary Pinot Noir is complete.
