2023 Kylie's Cuvée Sauvignon Blanc

THE VINEYARD

Dutton Ranch farms more than 80 separate vineyards in the Russian River Valley. Our Sauvignon Blanc vineyards, Shop Block and George Jewell, are planted to the Musqué clone, which is noted for its unique floral aromas. Kylie’s Cuvée is a family designation from our Sisters Selection and named for Joe and Tracy Dutton’s middle daughter. The Shop Block Vineyard is known for higher acid fruit, which is softened during the fermentation and aging process. The vineyards are certified Sonoma County Sustainably Farmed and Fish-Friendly. They are dry-farmed and historically produce grapes of consistent character.

THE WINEMAKING 

We harvest the fruit from our vineyards at night, a practice that we extend to all our vines. Throughout the intricate process of whole cluster pressing and fermentation, we meticulously gather the yield from each vineyard and block separately, ensuring that every grape reaches its peak ripeness. Our shop block grapes are whole cluster pressed before finding sanctuary in stainless-steel tanks, where they gently cool to perfection. From there, they journey into a symphony of new and neutral French oak barrels, where they undergo their magical transformation. But this year, excitement bubbled in our cellar as we embarked on an exhilarating experiment! After the pressing and cold settling, the yield from the George Jewell vineyard was divided into two vessels: one embracing the stainless steel, capturing aromatics while the other found its home in a magnificent concrete egg! The anticipation was palpable as we watched these wines age gracefully over four months, each vessel lending its unique character to the blend. Finally, as bottling day approached, we joyfully blended the barrels from the Shop Block Vineyard with the contents of the stainless-steel and concrete egg tanks from the George Jewell Vineyard, creating a masterpiece that sings with harmony and innovation.

TASTING NOTES 

Indulge in the captivating aromas of this wine, where Mandarin orange, white peach, and citrus blossom intertwine, creating an enchanting bouquet. Delightful hints of honeydew melon, tangerine, and key lime add layers of complexity, complemented by subtle notes of sweet oak, whisking you to a citrus paradise. Upon tasting, relish the crisp and focused character, with a mouthfeel that is both refreshing and enduring. The vibrant acidity harmonizes seamlessly with a luxurious, creamy texture, offering a delightful balance on the palate. The finish is expansive, leaving a lingering sensation of sweet Texas Ruby Red grapefruit and Meyer lemon zest.
