2022 Green Valley Girls Pinot Noir

THE VINEYARD

Dutton Ranch farms more than 80 separate vineyards in the Russian River Valley. Our vineyards are certified Sonoma County Sustainable Farm Friendly. The 14+ acre vineyard was planted in the mid 1990s and lies within the northwest limits of the town of Graton in the Green Valley sub-appellation of the Russian River Valley. 

THE WINEMAKING

The fruit from our Green Valley Girls Vineyard was hand-picked at night for optimal acidity levels. Both clones were harvested on the same night with the purpose of doing a co-fermentation at the winery. Our goal for this wine is to showcase the characteristics of what happens when you combine the clones early. By co-fermenting early, we can extract different flavors, aromas, texture, and tannins. This Pinot Noir is special because we divert from our normal Pinot Noir fermentation and blending styles, making it both fun in the cellar and for the consumers! Once fermentation was complete, the wine was moved to French oak barrels, 75% new, which resulted in a beautiful balance of baking spices on the nose and palate. 

TASTING NOTES

A light-bodied and wonderfully complex Pinot Noir that displays delicate florals on the nose, anchored by aromas of plum and currant. The palate is prominent with red berries, cranberries, dried herbs and a touch of baking spice. The plush tannins and medium acidity from the clonal selection allow for a balance of fruit, acidity and spice, resulting in a longer finish. This 2022 vintage is showing beautifully right out of the bottle and will only enhance with age. Enjoy this duck, ribs, or with guests before you jump into your meal!
